July 10, 2016 Morning Worship

With the various national events of the past few weeks, Vine Street Baptist Church suspended their normal Sunday School time and gathered in the main Worship Center for a time of prayer. Pastor Spencer Harmon led the group through reasons why it is important for the church to do this:

• To grieve together (Romans 12:15)
• To be salt & light (Matthew 5:13-16)
• To offer lasting hope (Ephesians 2:11-19)

Pastor Spencer guided everyone through specific prayers, including specifically praying for the men in Louisiana & Michigan, and the police officers in Dallas who died this week, specifically for local and national leaders, and finally for the church and area sister churches.  Many people offered prayers during each of these periods.

After the guided prayer time concluded, everyone prepared for the worship service.  The service began when Deacon Chandler Bainter read Psalm 13 and said a prayer. Worship Leader Jacob Hatcher led members and guests though songs:

• Precious Lord, Take My Hand
• When My Heart is Torn Asunder

After a time of fellowship and welcome, Pastor Spencer spoke about today and this week’s events:

• Classic Scripture Series – Psalm 23 today and Matthew 6:9-13 next week.
• Pal-o-Mine Fellowship this Wednesday at 10:30am

Pastor Spencer said a pastoral prayer, again focusing the prayer on healing and the Lord’s guidance through the days ahead. After the prayer, Doug Hanna read Revelation 7:9-12, then Jacob returned to lead more songs.

After Deacon Betty Jeffries said a prayer for the offering, Nathan Bates and Noah Bates sang Will the Circle Be Unbroken while they played their guitars.

After the sermon, the congregation sang part of It Is Well again, then Sounders closed the service with a benediction reading from Numbers 6.
